Federal Court Temporarily Blocks Overtime Rule
On Tuesday, November 22, 2016, a federal judge issued a preliminary injunction to block the U.S. Department of Labor from implementing and enforcing its Final Overtime Rule. The new regulations were set to increase the threshold for salaried employees who must be paid overtime for hours exceeding 40 per week from $23,660 to $47,476 annually. For now, the injunction is temporary and is currently being reviewed by the court. This means that employers do not need to comply with the new regulations by the original December 1st effective date. As of now, there is no way of knowing if or when the status of the regulations will change.
